KraussMaffei's Chopped Fibre Direct Processing (CFP) technology won first prize in the Processes & Methods category of the Innovation Award for Fibre-Reinforced Plastics, presented by AVK, the German Federation of Reinforced Plastics.
The technology, using KraussMaffei's patented screw, allows for the direct integration of chopped fibres in the injection molding machine to produce fibre-reinforced components.
Compared to continuous fiber reinforcement technology, it can save up to 46 percent of material costs and reduce energy consumption by approximately 0.8 kilowatt-hours per kilogram of processed material, resulting in significant cost and energy reductions.
The Innovation Award for Fibre-Reinforced Plastics recognizes outstanding composite material innovation technologies. The judging panel, consisting of engineers, scientists, and industry journalists, evaluates the innovation, implementation, and sustainability based on various criteria.
